It’s time for another GuyTalk ladies, and this is one you won’t want to miss! Travel is always a tough thing to plan – from the flight to the hotel to the activities. But traveling with your guy (and his sports-focused tourism needs) can be a special beast all its own. So, before Memorial Day weekend and other summer vacations, we called in Aji Olayemi for our column this month to break down the best places to travel as a couple!
The last “vacation” I went on, if you can call it that, was a friend’s bachelor party. It was a three-day weekend where my friends and I enjoyed opious amounts of alcohol, lots of laughs (mostly at the groom’s expense) and a few indelible moments that I’m sure some people would prefer I not commit to paper.

I’m guessing this the typical image women have in their minds when they think of guys on vacation. That assumption can make planning a trip for the two of you seem like a daunting task, especially if you’re afraid of seeing that disinterested look on his face that says, “How did I end up here?”
But we men are reasonable people, open to compromise (I swear). There’s no reason to think you couldn’t plan a vacation with packs fun we’ll enjoy, you’ll enjoy and that we can enjoy together. And these places are guaranteed to make that easy to do.

Austin, TX
Just in case everyone you know hasn’t already said you should go, I’ll say it again. But seriously, Austin is a travel destination full of surprises that’s sure not to disappoint. Hiking on nature trails, kayaking on the lake or taking a dip in the Barton Springs Pools are all great ways to sample the great outdoors. And if you need a break from the heat you can soak up some history on a tour of the State Capitol building, or the LBJ Presidential Library. Plus, there always plenty of live music to see!

San Francisco, CA
There’s just something about California. I don’t know if it’s in the air or the water, but it’s something special. Once you’re there, the sun seems to shine a little brighter on your face and your cares slip away. While it’s not the state’s capitol (it’s Sacramento, FYI), San Francisco is California’s crowning jewel. A beautiful city right on the ocean. There are a variety of things to do: You could spend all day in Golden Gate Park. Catch a baseball game. Pick up amazing seafood. Race up the windy, hilly streets. Even check out Alcatraz…because who doesn’t want to go to prison on vacation, right?

Chicago, IL
I may be breaking the rules by putting Chicago on the list, since this is my hometown. But I don’t care. Now, for the sake of my integrity I won’t call it the best city in the country, but you’d be hard pressed to find another place that has more to offer. With world-class museums, a vibrant restaurant scene and plenty of places to shop, Chicago has all of what you’d expect to find in a modern metropolis. And visiting Chicago in the summertime means relaxing at a roof-top bar, catching a Cubs game and taking a bike ride along Lake Michigan are all viable options to add to your itinerary.

Charleston, SC
For me, few things compare to the sense of excitement and adventure that come with experiencing a new and different environment. Landing in Charleston will make it feel like you’ve walked into a different time period. Historic battle sites and grandiose architecture will take you right back to Civil War times, without all the gangrene. On a fresher note, since Charleston is a harbor town there is no shortage of great seafood. Plus, it has quite the burgeoning beer scene, with over a dozen craft and microbreweries.

New Orleans, LA
The first thing I’ll say about New Orleans is, it doesn’t have to be Mardi Gras for you to have a good time. Whenever you stop by I’m sure they’d be happy to have to you. The city is big and loud and bold, and I mean that in terms of the music, food and drinks. I mean c’mon, it’s called “A Hurricane” after all!
