We’ve basically had a girl crush on Kristin Cavallari since 2004 when she was the coolest girl at Laguna Beach High School and got to go to prom with Stephen Coletti, but more than a decade later that admiration has turned into serious respect for the life she’s created. The girl is not only a mom of three and wife to Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler, she’s got a successful shoe line, she’s currently on a book tour, and she somehow looks even better at 29 than she did at 16.
Her latest venture: a newly re-launched jewelry collection, Emerald Duv, created with her longtime friend Chelsea Bulte. We recently got a chance to chat with Kristin about the new collection, how it’s changed since it originally debuted last year, and how she manages to do it all.
TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT EMERALD DUV AND WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START IT LAST YEAR?
Emerald Duv is all about simplicity with pieces you can easily mix and match with what you already have in your closet. We also have trendy pieces and everything is affordable. I wanted to take the knowledge I’ve learned with the success of my shoe line and apply it to jewelry. I love designing accessories and want women to look and feel great without spending a fortune.
HOW DID THE INITIAL COLLECTION DO? WHAT WAS THE RESPONSE LIKE?
When we launched we had more of a boho vibe but have since changed to classier, dainty pieces. We had a great response to the first collection but felt it wasn’t true to who we are. That’s why now everything we design, we absolutely love and feel passionately about.
WHAT SORT OF GAP WERE YOU TRYING TO FILL IN THE JEWELRY MARKET WITH THIS COLLECTION? We are proud of the quality for the price point. We feel jewelry should be affordable but not cheap.
HOW DO YOU ENVISION YOUR CUSTOMERS WEARING YOUR JEWELRY?
We see them wearing certain pieces every single day. Most of the jewelry is pieces you will never want to take off with the exception of a few bolder pieces. Everything can be worn with what you already have in your closet making our jewelry incredibly versatile.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE PIECES?
For a bigger piece I love the Calabassas necklace but I wear the Santa Monica necklace, Laguna earrings, and Los Angeles ring almost everyday.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?
Effortless, minimalistic, and chic.
HAS YOUR STYLE CHANGED AT ALL SINCE YOU MOVED TO CHICAGO? DID LIVING HERE INFLUENCE YOUR JEWELRY COLLECTION AT ALL?
The only thing about my style that’s changed is during the winter months..,I’ve had to dress accordingly! But overall my style is the same so no, living in Chicago hasn’t influenced the collection any more than living in LA would have.

WHAT ABOUT YOUR ROLE AS A MOM? HOW HAS THAT CHANGED YOUR PERSPECTIVE ON STYLE?
Now I just try to design pieces that are practical. I’m with my kids all day but still want to wear the things I love without jewelry snagging their little faces or getting in the way of nursing.

Thank you! My secret is I only do what’s most important to me. Once I had kids I decided to put them first and only say yes to the things I absolutely love. I’m lucky because I can work on the shoes, jewelry, and book from anywhere and essentially make my own hours. I feel very lucky to have both!
